Westchester County Airport

Westchester County Airport (IATA: HPN, ICAO: KHPN) serves that suburban county, other nearby counties' passengers that seek to avoid major New York airports, and to a degree New York City.

Its IATA Airport Code is derived from its location in White Plains, although by some accounts the code is taken from the neighboring communities of Harrison, Purchase, and North Castle. The airport is owned by Westchester County.

In 2004, the Westchester County Airport underwent major a major refurbishment and upgrading of facilities. Many travelers believe that the standard of facilities and infrastructure are superior to other New York Airports, like JFK or LaGuardia

The airport was originally constructed for military purposes, home to an Air National Guard unit, but today is used for general aviation and commercial service, which began in 1947. It is operated by the government of Westchester County, New York.
