Category: Museums
New York is filled to the brim with so many museums that it would truly take years for the average person to be able to truly experience all of them. If you’re visiting New York and want to spend a lot of time in museums, it can be difficult to pick one out of the incredible lineup that New York has to offer. When you do finally take your New York museum trip, make sure you have a cheap car rental so you can easily navigate from museum to museum, without spending unnecessary dollars on taxis. Check out these suggested New York museums to make sure you don’t miss any incredible activities on your next trip to New York.

Ellis Island Immigration Museum
The Ellis Island Immigration Museum is an important part of America’s future, and millions of present day Americans likely had a relative who travelled through its doors. Ellis Island is located in the New York harbor, and the immigration station processed approximately twelve million immigrants who made the long steamship journey across the Atlantic. The immigration station operated between 1892 and 1954, and in 1990 was converted into a museum that documents the immigrant’s experience. You can get there by taking the ferry from Battery Park, and then explore the island after you’ve visited the museum.

Guggenheim Museum
The Guggenheim Museum is an incredible work of architecture, designed by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright. The inside spirals around the walls, letting visitors stroll from top to bottom at their own leisurely pace. The Guggenheim Museum contains mostly modern art that is changed throughout the year. Usually there are paintings, sculptures, or films that are sure to delight the crowds. The Guggenheim Museum will be loved by both art and architecture aficionados, so be sure to stop by if you’re looking for an interesting afternoon.

American Museum of Natural History
The famed American Museum of Natural History has been delighting visitors since 1869. The museum features breathtaking exhibits on human culture, the world and universe, and many other fascinating things. The American Museum of Natural History boasts the world’s largest dinosaur fossil collection, so make sure you walk around the fourth floor and look at the massive dinosaur recreations. Also make sure you check out the landmark, life-sized blue whale that’s suspended in the Hall of Ocean Life, as it is truly one of a kind!

Lower East Side Tenement Museum
If you’re growing wary of the massive crowds that New York museums tend to draw but still want to experience a history rich New York museum, then you should not miss the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. The museum is essentially a preserved tenement building, offering visitors the experience of learning what it was like to live in New York as an immigrant over one hundred years ago. When you do visit the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, you must call ahead and book a tour, as the museum is tour-led only. The museum also offers many neighborhood-walking tours, to better give you the old New York experience.
